Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding your concern, there is no need to install any software on the computer for you to connect the handset with your PC. All you need to have is a memory card inside the handset and a data cable then set the phone to mass storage.

To connect the phone to the computer, please follow the steps below:
Pull out and up the memory card slot cover
Insert the formatted microSD card into the memory card slot
Connect the USB data cable to both the handset and the USB port on the PC
If Select USB Mode appears on the display press the clear key to return to the standby screen OR if the MTP Connect to the PC... appears on the display, press OK then with Yes highlighted press OK to disconnect from the PC
From the standby screen, press OK for Menu
Select Settings & Tools
Select Tools
Select USB Mass Storage
From the PC, double click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop
Double click on the newly created drive letter (which may appear as an icon or text, depending on your View settings)
Double click on the folder to view the contents
Copy and paste or drag n drop the files to/from the destination on the PC
From the handset, press OK for Disconnect
With Yes highlighted, press OK then remove the USB data cable from both the handset and PC

Should you desire additional assistance regarding this, we invite you to call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357 between the hours 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

Can't import contacts from old phone.

I've recently switched to Nexus S from a "dumbphone" and when I switched, I moved all my contacts on the old phone to the SIM-card but the new phone won't recognize 'em. Any ideas on how to import the contacts?

Now this depends on what your (dumbphone) was. Since the Nexus S doesn't have a Sim Card or a Micro Card either. Hopefully all your cellular contacts are also part of your email or Outlook or whomever else manages contacts on your computer. Then you just add the account to your Nexus S. I suggest using your GOOGLE account for this. Since then your phone can automatically sync both your contacts, calendar and many other things.

During the initial setup of the device, launching any Google app will prompt a Google sign-in screen. Or you can sign-in by the method below:

From any Home screen, press Options > Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add an Account > Google > Next > Create or Sign-In
Enter Username and Password and then touch Sign-In
Select whether Contacts, Gmail, and calendar should be synced and then touch Finish > Finish Setup

You have to first set up a SYNC relationship between the device and the PC or service containing the data you wish to sync. I personally recommend using SAMSUNG KIES software for your mobile phone. You can find the link for the download here http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/

It is easy to install on the desktop and can sync both via the USB Cable and Wireless.

KIES is user friendly and can sync your calendar, contacts, music, photos, and videos.

Hi there!
Thanks for your question.
Are you referring to the PIN code of the SIM card inserted on the phone?
Please call your service provider regarding the issue of resetting the PIN code for your SIM card.
If this is in regards to the passcode to access the device, the default phone lock code of your phone is "0000" or "00000000". If the default phone lock code did not work then we can do a reset on the phone. If a factory reset is necessary, please call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

Are you asking to unlock the phone where you locked it with a password? Or are you asking to unlock it from the carriers programming of it when purchased? If you forgot your password call your carrier they can reset the phone. If you are asking about the latter. I cannot help there.

Actually you need SOFTWARE to accomplish this. Samsung has a great program called KIES (pronounced KEYS) you can download it from samsung.com http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/

With KIES what you doing will be a piece of cake.

Also on a side note becareful setting up the sync. You don't want to accidently have every PHOTO on your computer transferred to the phone. The USB Drive built in WILL NOT BE FORGIVING when it slows your phone to a slow crawl.

The BLUETOOTH max transmit power isn't persay fixed. But there is no need to desire to adjust something that is designed for CLOSE Proximity wireless transmission. And I used the term persay because THEYSAY as in the FCC in America. Limits transmission power for certain device classes. Example if you tamper with it the Urban Myth about portable devices like cell phones and laptops screwing with avonics. Becomes REALITY.....

THERE are so many of them that one has to ask that you download the users guide from the samsung.com website.

Here's the typical ones far right back to left. clock, battery guage, signal bars, 4G/3G, lemon looking with a check mark = skype is running, arrow pointing down means a dowload finished.

Ahhh let me stop just TOUCH ONE and what they are will drop down right before your very eyes.

There are lots of ways to accomplish this task. I personally have every device I own backed up to a USB External Drive. I gave each one a folder on the drive (i.e.) desktop, notebook1, nexusphone, etc and use the operating system to copy the entire folder to the drive. You can also do it with backup software provided you have a location LARGE Enough to hold the 13GB of the phones' USB Drive.

How can I stop the Android Gallery app from launching automatically when I turn my Nexus S phone on?

Every time I turn my Nexus S phone on the Gallery App launches. It uses up the battery more than anything else on the phone. If I force stop it most of the time it relaunches when I simply reawake the phone. Very Frustrating!

Sounds like you need to ADD your PASSWORD to the network to your phone. Go into the phones settings for your network from SETTINGS, WiFi Networks, Find your home network, and add the password. If that doesn't do it.....next see if it works WITH THE NETWORK FIREWALL turned off. If it does, remove the network from the phone. Turn the firewall back on and then have the phone find the network again. Then set up the network on the phone from the phone.

If you need additional assistance, feel free to ask us on Twitter @GalaxySsupport or @samsungservice for speedy responses in the U.S.
