The temperature in your FTQ353 has been preset at the factory. If your food is undercooking, it may be an indication that the thermostat needs to be adjusted. Please see the section "Thermostat Adjustment" on page 35 of your FTQ353 User Manual. If this does not resolve the issue, or if you find that the ±35°F adjustment is not enough to enable your food to cook correctly, it may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

What is the point of the steam cleaning feature?

I have followed the instructions to the letter. I add the correct type of water, the correct amount and the correct time. At the end of the cleaning cycle I not only still have a dirty oven interior but I also have standing water on the bottom of the oven. I have to manually clean the oven and remove the water -- basically clean the oven by hand. A 20 minute cycle time seems clearly inadequate as the oven barely can preheat to 450 degrees in that time.

Thank you for the question. The 20-minute steam cleaning feature on the FTQ353 does not require it to heat up to 450-degrees, and should be adequate time for Steam Quick to loosen grease and food spatters inside the oven cavity. Please keep in mind that this type of cleaning is appropriate for use on spills that have recently occurred, and may not be effective on grease or spills that have been baked or burned on over a period of time. It is also worth noting that the 20-minute Steam Quick cycle is intended to loosen the spills or grease, but it is still necessary to wipe them up at the end of the cycle. The water that was used to create the steam will recondense to water once the oven cools.

That being said, if you're using the correct amount of water and are wiping the oven cavity soon after the cycle ends, and you do not feel it is working as described, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will try to assist you further.

The FTQ353 is also equipped with a traditional "pyrolytic" self-cleaning feature which may be more appropriate for your oven cleaning needs.

Question

Why doesn't the steam cleaning feature clean the oven?

The steam cleaning feature leaves the oven uncleaned and full of hot water. I follow the instructions exactly as written. After the procedure I have to wipe off the remaining residue and remove the standing water. What is the steam cleaning feature supposed to clean?

The Steam Quick cleaning feature loosens the grease and splatters from the oven surface making it easier to wipe off with a sponge or towel, so it sounds as though it's working perfectly in your FTQ353IWUB! As the oven cools, it is normal for the steam to condense, returning to its liquid state, which then needs to be wiped up along with the residue. Though this step is necessary, it uses far less time and energy than the traditional pyrolytic cleaning, which may still be necessary for removing spills and splatters that have been baked onto the oven surface over and over again, if you choose to forego the Steam Quick option.

SE is a functional error code indicating a shorted key. Press the CLEAR/OFF pad and restart the oven. If the problem persists, disconnect all power to the range for at least 30 seconds and then reconnect the power. If this does not solve the problem, your FTQ353 range will require service. To use the Steam Quick feature on your FTQ353 range, remove all accessories from the oven, pour 10 oz (300 ml) of tap water (not distilled) into the bottom of the oven, close the door, press the Steam Clean button, then press Set/Start. When the operation is complete, the display will blink and a beep will sound. Clean the oven’s interior. There will be a significant amount of water remaining on the bottom of the oven after a steam-cleaning cycle. Remove the residual water with a sponge or soft dry cloth.

The FTQ353IWUB electric range requires a 240V/60 Hz power supply and 40-amp circuit. The range does not come with a cord because the choice of whether to use a 3-prong or 4-prong cord may vary depending on your home's wiring and your local building codes. I would suggest contacting a licensed electrician in your area for advice in this matter.

The cook tops on Samsung electric ranges have been internally tested to support loads of up to 70 pounds and run continuously at maximum heat levels for extended periods of time. Samsung does not guarantee fitness of the product for any specific purpose, however, it is our understanding that the load, heat and time parameters of general non-commercial canning would fall into those performed in our tests. Please understand that this statement does not imply that the referenced cook top could be used for commercial use, as operation of the product in a commercial manner may void the warranty.

I can't tell you whether a particular brand or style of canner is acceptable, so would suggest you contact the canner manufacturer to determine its appropriateness for use on a ceramic cook top.

Thanks for the question. The FTQ353 does not have the Fast Boil feature, but several other Samsung models do. If this feature is important to you, you may want to consider the FE-R300 or FE710, both of which have radiant cooktops with the Fast Boil option, or perhaps one of the induction or hybrid cooktops since induction elements boil faster than both radiant elements and gas burners. Most of these models offer a variety of other features, as well, such as convection baking and roasting, Steam Quick for easy cleaning, and the new Flex Duo Oven of the FE710 which can convert from a large 5.9 cubic foot capacity single oven to a double oven for cooking different items at different temperatures simultaneously.
