My new Dryer (DV5471A) will not stop running

Purchased the washer and dryer set a little over a week ago and the dryer has been giving me problems. In Normal Mode the dryer will go from 40 minutes down to 1 and will never shut off, we have to manually open the door to make it turn off. On time dry, the same thing. One thing that I have noticed is there is an hour-glass indicator light directly under the minute countdown on the gauge cluster. Could there be a setting that has it locked? Please help

I'm sorry to hear you're having these issues with your new dryer. The hourglass icon simply indicates a cycle is in progress and is nothing to be concerned about. However, if the cycle time is jumping from 40 minutes to 1 minute on Timed Dry, service may be necessary. It's not unusual for this to happen on a Sensor Dry setting if the clothes are dry, but if it's happening and the clothes are still wet, this could indicate a problem, as well. Before contacting service, please check the lint trap and vent ducts to make sure there is no blockage interfering with air flow, since this is something that could significantly effect the performance.

Water Leakage and Timer Not Working

Earlier today I put two items into my DV5451AEW/XAA electric dryer and ran the machine on the Wrinkle Away setting. Several minutes later my wife informs me that water is leaking out of the machine! I stop the cycle and clean up the mess, then restart on Quick Dry (20 minutes), since the two shirts were now soaked with water. An hour and a half later the dryer was still running, despite the shirts being quite dry. Now I am afraid to use any of the steam settings on the dryer and the timer seems to not be functioning at all (display shows the original amount of time, but does not count down). Did I accidentally change a setting on the dryer or does a service request need to be put in on it? Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your DV5451AEW. First, please check the water connection to the dryer. Since the steam function operates by spraying a mist of cold air into the dryer drum, relying on the heat of the dryer to create the steam, if water is leaking it may be because the connection is not secure. Opening the dryer door immediately after the mist is sprayed could also prevent it from working properly since the heat needed to make the steam would escape.

Next, please check your power supply to make sure the dryer is connected to a 240V/60 Hz/30 amp outlet, which is necessary to enable the dryer to heat properly. Check the vent ducts and lint trap for blockage, since obstructed air flow can prevent the dryer from heating and operating efficiently.

Thank you for the question. The Signal button on the DV5471 dryer can only turn the chime on or off; the volume cannot be adjusted on this model.

Question

Dryer Behavior; Unit is stopping and I have to manually interviene to start drying operation again.

I select the type of operation and proceed to press start. Unit starts as expected but during the operation the unit will stop drying before the cycle has been completed. I have to manually press start again before the unit will continue. If I selected timed drying the unit works as expected. Please advise.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please make sure the door is closed and latched completely. If the door is not closed properly, the dryer will not run. Check the lint filter to make sure there is no blockage of air which can prevent the dryer from operating properly. If your dryer was installed using existing vent ducts, it may not have been cleaned out thoroughly. Try cycling the power to the dryer by unplugging/replugging or turn the circuit breaker off then on again. Reset the cycle and press the Start/Pause button. The samsung manual says to "adjust the volume or turn it off by pressing the Signal button." I cannot figure out how to adjust the volume. Only how to turn it off.

Thanks for the question. Some models do have the option of adjusting the dryer signal from louder to softer, but the DV5471 does not. The signal can only be turned on or off by pressing the Signal button.

Scratch to dryer door

I have the dryer which had a bit on sticker left over that I thought my thumb nail would clean it off with a scratch and it did scratch to the plastic like see through door how can i get rid off that ,didnt think it would harm it now its ugly with scrathes on it??

I'm sorry to hear you may have scratched your DV5471 dryer door. I would suggest wiping the scratched area with a small amount of WD40 or dish soap (the hand-washing type, not the dishwasher kind). If the apparent scratch is actually residue from the adhesive, this should help to remove it. If the plastic is, in fact, scratched, then unfortunately, the scratch cannot be removed. My new dryer's drum squeaks.

The dryer is level and the vent is properly installed. Our handyman looked at it (without doing anything to it) -- he said the squeak comes from the drum, which is, according to him, too loose, more than any inch. The squeaking is quite loud. Now what?

Which cycle uses the largest amount of water?

We are washing cloth diapers and would like to know if any of the cycles use more water for washing than others. It looked like the towels wetting had more water than others, so I just wanted to ask which had the most so we could use that one for cloth diapers.
