Question

Have you solve problem with larger items balling up?

After reading reviews on this washer and dryer line, I have determined that the washer is great and the dryer is good but the dryer had a problem with sheets and bigger towels balling up and not drying properly as well as noise problems when this happens. I was wondering if this problem had been addressed.

Thanks for your interest. What you're referring to is actually the result of the large capacity of the DV448AEP, which some people have found can cause sheets to become twisted and even "ball up". A simple solution is to add 3 to 4 towels to the dryer. This should take care of the issue.

I have washed many loads of large items and have not noticed any balling. I have also not noticed any noise problems from the dryer. If you feel the items are not drying enough you could run a manual timed dry and select a higher heat.

The simple solution (are you listening Samsung) is to have the dryer periodically reverse direction. I'm surprised this was not implemented. It is also the reason I rate the unit a 3 out of 5.

Samsung SIde Vent Kits are scheduled for release in December. If you want to use the side vent capabilities of you electric dryer now, you can purchase a third party kit from Maytag, part number 12002641, that should fit. Because this kit is made for Maytag dryers, Samsung can not provide support for installation or usage. As with all home appliance installations, we recommend you have a professional installer perform the installation.

The best way to remove adhesive from the plastic window of the DV448AEP is with GooGone. You should avoid using GooGone on the chrome-colored trim, however.

The maximum recommended vent duct length for the DV448 is 80 feet, assuming there are no 90-degree elbows and 4" rigid ducting is used. Please see the attached image for additional duct length recommendations.

My user's guide quotes:
With 4" rigid metallic duct
0 90 degree elbows, 80 ft
1 90 degree elbow, 68 ft
2 90 degree elbows, 57 ft
3 90 degree elbows, 47 ft
I use in a condominium, venting through the roof from the first floor, up through the third floor, and have no issues.

Question

How do you solve the problem of balling up of bedding in the dryer?

I still get the bedding balled up in the dryer despite adding a few towels. My bedspread balled up so tightly it sounded like a heavy ball being tossed around in the dryer. Any other suggestions on how to solve this problem?

I have had this happen twice so far. All I had to do was pull out the bedding and separate the sheets and replace them in the dryer. Worked each time. Not sure this will be a comprehensive answer for you, but it has worked for me each time.

In addition to the suggestion offered by the other contributor, adding a few towels to a load of bedding is usually enough to resolve the issue of sheets balling up. If this issue persists, it is a result of the large capacity of the DV448, so I would suggest adding another sheet or towel to help resolve the problem.

There are a couple of different options available on the DV448AEP dryer which would allow you to have the dryer stop automatically while the clothes are still damp. You could either select "Damp Dry" from the 5 possible Dryness Level settings, or you could set the amount of time you'd like the dryer to run for under the Time Dry settings.

I set my drying cycle to "damp dry", remove the clothes i want to hang dry, then restart the cycle to the new desired drying cycle. When you start the cycle over, the dryer senses the moisture and automatically adjusts, to prevent a long second cycle. Hope this works for you, too.

To change the language on the DV448AEP display, press and hold the Rack Dry and Wrinkle Prevent buttons for 3 seconds until the display changes; then select the desired language by pressing the Signal button (choices are English, French and Spanish). Once set, the selected language will remain in memory, even if the dryer is turned off or unplugged.

You're correct that the DV448AEP has 4-way venting, and yes, one of those ways is through the bottom. It can also be vented out the back (factory default), right or left side.

For bottom or side venting, Samsung now makes the DV-1A vent kit which is available for purchase through samsungparts.com or by calling 800-627-4368. You can also click the following link for bottom venting instructions: http://tinyurl.com/yfcppzt

Though the WF448AAP does not have a soak option, per se, each wash cycle has a certain amount of time dedicated to soaking as it pauses between stages of the cycle. While you do have the option of "pausing" the washer at any time, allowing for "soak time", the low water use of the front load washers would prevent the clothes from being submerged in water for soaking purposes if left standing overnight.

Question

I want some additional information on using the steam cycle of my dryer unit. also does it have a steam generator inside?

the owners manual is sort of brief and doesn't give the level of details I would like. what items can you use in the steam cycle etc. If you put a down filled comforter in, what can you expect as far as cleaning and drying? Just more general tips in using the steam feature. how much more energy is used during the steam cycle versus normal drying? thanks.

Thank you for the questions. The DV448AEP uses the heat from the dryer to create steam by spraying a fine mist of water into it at the optimal time. Since it does not use a steam generator, it does not use more energy to create the steam.

Regarding the use of steam on different types of items, Samsung recommends referring to the fabric care instructions on the garment since steam is not appropriate for all types of garments in any particular category. Some comforters may be cleaned effectively with steam, others may not. When in doubt, I would suggest contacting the item's manufacturer for the most realistic expectations.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. It is not unusual for sheets to ball up due to the size of the drum in the DV448 dryer. Most customers find that adding a few towels to the dryer load can help to alleviate this problem.

Question

How do you set a specific time for My Cycle? I would like a 15 min setting so I don't have to always adjust the time down.

I've tried to set a My Cycle for 15 min using both the Time Dry and Quick Dry as a starting point. I adjust the time, select My Cycle, then let the entire cycle complete. I power back up and select My Cycle and the time defaults back to either 40 min (when I've started with Time Dry) or 30 min (when I've started with Quick Dry). All other options are saved with the exception of the TIme.

The DV448AEW dryer temperatures can range from a low of 100°F to a high of over 150°F when sanitizing. If you are using a Sensor Dry setting and your cycle is ending before the clothes are dry, there are a few possible causes; try the following to correct this:
- Clean the lint trap filter and housing.
- Check the vent ducts for blockage.
- Use a Time Dry cycle for mixed loads of different weight fabrics.
- Select the appropriate heat setting and dryness level.

For additional tips, please follow the link below to open the Troubleshooting Guide, then select "Operation" > "Clothes Are Damp At The End Of A Sensor Dry Cycle: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...
