Yes, in order to use the steam feature in the DV409AEW, water needs to be supplied to the dryer either through a hose from the washing machine's cold water connection, or directly from the house's cold water supply.

You don't need a separate water line. It comes with a splitter that you connect one to the washer & the other to the dryer. It works perfectly.

I would suggest running the dryer with nothing inside to be sure the sound you are hearing is not being caused by something in the laundry, such as buttons or zippers. When you remove the items, please check the inside of the drum for a loose button or similar item, and check the lint filter, as well. Please examine all connections and clearance around the outside of the dryer to rule out the possibility that vibration is causing the dryer to come into contact with a nearby wall or neighboring rack or appliance, or that the vent ducts are not coming loose and causing the noise.

If none of these suggestions resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further, which may involve scheduling service if necessary.

Samsung's DV-1A side vent kit, which is available through SamsungParts.com or by calling 800-627-4368, comes with installation instructions to guide you through each step of the process. This kit can be used to vent out the bottom, left or right side of the DV419AEW, which is designed with "knock out" circles on each side to easily identify the appropriate side vent location.

The chime you hear from your DV409 during the cycle is likely either the Mixed Load Bell or Wrinkle Prevent. Both of these features are explained in the User Manual, and can be turned off by pressing the corresponding button on the control panel. The User Manual can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website for your convenience.

Question

Is it normal for some water to drip out of dryer door when drying some loads like towels?

I have found some small pools of water on the floor under the front of my dryer and then watched one day while drying a load of towels. Water actually drips out of the door. Is this typical?

Thank you for the question. It is not typical to have water dripping from the front of the dryer since moisture, whether from wet clothes or the steam dry cycle, should evaporate from the clothes then leave through the vent ducts. However, if the lint screen is clogged or the vents are obstructed, the moisture may not be able to escape correctly. I would suggest checking the lint trap and vent ducts to make sure there is no blockage. If this does not resolve your issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you in determining whether your dryer will require service.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please make sure the door is closed and latched completely. If the door is not closed properly, the dryer will not run. Check the lint filter to make sure there is no blockage of air which can prevent the dryer from operating properly. Try cycling the power to the dryer by unplugging/replugging or turning the circuit breaker off then on again. Reset the cycle and press the Start/Pause button. If the dryer still won't run, it may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

Feature

Does this DV409AEW model have Quick Dry (Manual Dry) and Mixed Load Bell features? It does not list in the product specification (instead there is an empty field). Could you please explain? What is the major difference between DV409AEW and DV419AEW?

The DV409AEW does have a Mixed Load Bell, as well as both Sensor Dry and Manual, including Quick Dry, options.

The DV409AEW and DV419AEW offer the same features, but the aesthetics are slightly different to compliment their matching washing machines. There are minor differences in the control panel design, and while both are available in Neat White, the DV409AEW also comes in Tango Red, and the DV419AEW in Blue Steel.

I'm sorry to hear your DV409AEW is not heating. The most common cause of the dryer not heating is obstructed air flow from a clogged lint trap or vent ducts. If you're sure there is no lint build-up obstructing the vents, other factors to check are to make sure the dryer is plugged into a dedicated 30-amp power supply that is functioning properly, and an appropriate heated dry cycle is selected. If you've checked each of these suggestions and the dryer still will not heat, it will require service.
