You don't need a separate water line. It comes with a splitter that you connect one to the washer & the other to the dryer. It works perfectly.

Yes, in order to use the steam feature in the DV409AEW, water needs to be supplied to the dryer either through a hose from the washing machine's cold water connection, or directly from the house's cold water supply.

Question

Feature

Does this DV409AEW model have Quick Dry (Manual Dry) and Mixed Load Bell features? It does not list in the product specification (instead there is an empty field). Could you please explain? What is the major difference between DV409AEW and DV419AEW?

Thank you,

The DV409AEW does have a Mixed Load Bell, as well as both Sensor Dry and Manual, including Quick Dry, options.

The DV409AEW and DV419AEW offer the same features, but the aesthetics are slightly different to compliment their matching washing machines. There are minor differences in the control panel design, and while both are available in Neat White, the DV409AEW also comes in Tango Red, and the DV419AEW in Blue Steel.

I would suggest running the dryer with nothing inside to be sure the sound you are hearing is not being caused by something in the laundry, such as buttons or zippers. When you remove the items, please check the inside of the drum for a loose button or similar item, and check the lint filter, as well. Please examine all connections and clearance around the outside of the dryer to rule out the possibility that vibration is causing the dryer to come into contact with a nearby wall or neighboring rack or appliance, or that the vent ducts are not coming loose and causing the noise.

If none of these suggestions resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further, which may involve scheduling service if necessary.

Samsung's DV-1A side vent kit, which is available through SamsungParts.com or by calling 800-627-4368, comes with installation instructions to guide you through each step of the process. This kit can be used to vent out the bottom, left or right side of the DV419AEW, which is designed with "knock out" circles on each side to easily identify the appropriate side vent location.

Question

availability of Extra Low temperature

On page 28 of the user manual it says for curtains & draperies to use the Perm Press cycle and Low or Extra Low temperature, but it won't let me use Low or Extra Low with any of the sensor dry settings, only manual. Is there any way to use either of those temperatures with sensor dry? Samsung per their manual seems to think it's possible but the machine won't let me.

Thank you for the question. The DV409 should allow you to select a Low temperature setting on the Delicate Sensor Dry cycle. If it does not, then please contact 800-SAMSUNG or use the Live Chat button on the product support page for assistance. It may be necessary to have a technician reset the programming on the machine. Per the Cycle Chart in the User Manual, the Extra Low temperature setting is not available on any of the Sensor Dry cycles, so you would need to use a Manual Dry setting if you wish to select Extra Low.

The indicator lights on the display are supposed to blink when the cycle is paused, and the Hour Glass symbol indicates a cycle is in progress. Please try pressing the Start/Pause button after checking that the dryer door is closed and latched securely. If the dryer still doesn't start, try cycling the circuit breaker off then on again, then turn the power on and press Start/Pause again. If the issue continues, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Question

A little bell is dinging while the dryer is running, what could this mean?

It started doing this 2 days ago. I have cleaned the lint screen so it`s not that. Is it the mixed load bell? The dryer seems to be operating fine , except for the little bell that sounds, every time I use the dryer. The model number is DV409AEW/XAA

The sound you're hearing must be either the Mixed Load Bell or the Wrinkle Prevent signal. Both are options that can be turned off by pressing the corresponding button on the control panel.

The "chasing lights" as you describe them indicate that the Wrinkle Prevent option has been selected. This feature allows the dryer to continue to tumble the clothes for up to 90 minutes after the heated drying has ended to help prevent wrinkles from setting in. The load is dry and can be removed at any time during the Wrinkle Prevent cycle. The indicator light above the cycle option pad on the controls will illuminate when Wrinkle Prevent is selected. To deactivate, press the Wrinkle Prevent button on the control panel.

Thank you for the question. Samsung makes a side vent kit, model DV-1A, which will enable you to vent your electric dryer out of the right side. For information and availability, please visit SamsungParts.com or call 800-627-4368. Side venting instructions are included with the kit.

For vent duct recommendations and specifications, please refer to page 8 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website if you don't have your hard copy that came with the dryer available.

Question

Is it normal for some water to drip out of dryer door when drying some loads like towels?

I have found some small pools of water on the floor under the front of my dryer and then watched one day while drying a load of towels. Water actually drips out of the door. Is this typical?

Thank you for the question. It is not typical to have water dripping from the front of the dryer since moisture, whether from wet clothes or the steam dry cycle, should evaporate from the clothes then leave through the vent ducts. However, if the lint screen is clogged or the vents are obstructed, the moisture may not be able to escape correctly. I would suggest checking the lint trap and vent ducts to make sure there is no blockage. If this does not resolve your issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you in determining whether your dryer will require service.

The chime you hear from your DV409 during the cycle is likely either the Mixed Load Bell or Wrinkle Prevent. Both of these features are explained in the User Manual, and can be turned off by pressing the corresponding button on the control panel. I'm sorry to hear your DV409AEW is not heating. The most common cause of the dryer not heating is obstructed air flow from a clogged lint trap or vent ducts. If you're sure there is no lint build-up obstructing the vents, other factors to check are to make sure the dryer is plugged into a dedicated 30-amp power supply that is functioning properly, and an appropriate heated dry cycle is selected. If you've checked each of these suggestions and the dryer still will not heat, it will require service.
