Question

Can we use fabric softener sheets?

We were told by the installer that fabric softener sheets are not recommended for some some dryers as they can damage the "Sensor". Is this dryer one of those? i have looked through the manual and poked around on the website but this subject was not addressed.

Can you help?

Not to worry - dryer sheets are fine. Unlike some manufacturers, Samsung sensors will not be effected by the use of dryer sheets.

The DV218AGW dryer is 29.4" deep, and Samsung recommends leaving 5" clearance behind the dryer to allow for rear venting.

Why is my dryer not working?

I have a DV218AGW gas dryer. When I press the Start button the dryer does not spin but instead makes a noise as if it is going to start but no spin. What could the problem be?

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please make sure the door is closed and latched completely. If the door is not closed properly, the dryer will not run. Check the lint filter to make sure there is no blockage of air which can prevent the dryer from operating properly. Try cycling the power to the dryer by unplugging/replugging or turn the circuit breaker off then on again. Reset the cycle and press the Start/Pause button. If the dryer still won't run, it may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

Where are the dryer sensors located and do they need to be cleaned?

The drying sensors do not appear to be working properly anymore. Even though the clothes are bone dry the machine keeps resetting itself to an hour or more of drying time over and over again. When I called the stores warranty service they said that the sensors need to be regularly cleaned out. Is this true? I could not find anything about this in the manual. If so, where are they located and what do I do to clean them The dryer is less than one year old. Thanks!

Question

Can this washer be installed under a countertop?

I'm considering buying a DV218AGW washer and matching dryer. Can they be installed with a counter top above them. The owner's manuals state 17" minimum clearance for the top of each.

The 17" clearance recommendation refers to installation in an alcove or closet because of the need for sufficient air circulation. If you are not installing the machines in an alcove or closet, there is not a requirement for clearance above the units.

How to take the face of the drier

I took the lint basket out to clean the screen and saw lint in the lint basket holder. I was cleaning out the lint and dropped my tool in there. Now the tool fell all the way down and I have to take the face of the Samsung drier DV218AG. Is there a picture so I know what I am doing along with directions??

Energy Star does not currently have a system for rating the efficiency of dryers, because they've found in the past that there is not a significant difference in energy use between models. They may reevaluate the need for such a program in the future. However, it's worth noting that the high spin speeds available on Samsung washing machines, along with the Sensor Dry options on the dryers themselves, do help to reduce the amount of energy used to dry your laundry.

For more information on the categories of products that are rated by Energy Star, please visit EnergyStar.gov.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The dryer squeaking may be caused by either a load that is too heavy, or the belt may be loose or in need of being replaced. If the load you're drying is heavy with water, try placing it back in the washer for a spin only cycle. Heavy, water soaked items like bath towels and rugs may require extra spinning before placing in the dryer.

If this is not the case, and the load you're drying is not very heavy, then your dryer likely requires service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thanks for the question. When facing the DV218 dryer, the side that can be vented is on the left. This is due to the location of the gas valve on the right side (facing).

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty removing a screw to reverse the door swing on your DV218 dryer. I would suggest applying more pressure to turn the screw. If necessary, try using an appropriate screw bit on a power drill to unscrew it, though I would not recommend using a power drill to install the screws.
