You were very fortunate to have had the use of your dishwasher for over a year prior to this occurance. We on the other hand were able to use our dishwasher for 3 months before the top rack adjusters which we never even use busted, and have followed that schedule ever since. At month 5 the motherboard also fried and had to be replaced which took 45 days and many hours to figure out the issue. We too are out of warranty and both adjustment guides are again busted and I refuse to pay another dime towards this clearly defective appliance. I bought the entire Samsung kitchen appliance package and the only item that has not had multiple issues is my fridge. I just noticecd this morning that my top rack is now rusting under the plastic coating. Time to escalate my problems.

We've had exactly the same problem. It occurred less than a year following installation. Fortunately the broken tabs worked their way through the system and we didn't have to replace the motor. New brackets were ordered. Because they're identical to the originals (plastic), we haven't reinstalled them. While we've lost the adjustable rack feature, at least the motor won't self destruct due to pieces of broken bracket.

Both of my bracket tabs have broken off. I did have one replaced while it was under warranty and it also broke. There is clearly poor engineering here with this bracket design. The bracket tabs start to break off in under a year.

Our adjustment brackets have broken off several times and have gotten into the motor causing us to have many repairs in a year. Our dishwasher works for a month, then breaks down. We continually had this problem. As soon as our warranty ran out, we had the same problem again and now we are without a dishwasher completely because I am not going to stick money into it every month.

I have the same problem. My dishwasher, also a DMR78AHS model, lost its original tabs in the first 11 months. I was able to get replacement parts under the original warranty. Now it is 9 months later and the replaced tabs have broken. Strangely the right bracket tabs remain ok.

Our dishwasher had pieces of the top rack adjustment bracket clips in it. These have continually broken off and fallen into the bottom of the machine. I imagine the food grinder is trying to process these hard pieces of plastic that have fallen into it. SOMETIMES they pass through. I have had my machine repaired several times because of this issue.

Question

How do I know if the rinse aid dispenser is full?

Yes, the "Rinse Aid" indicator does come on in the display. It was coming on every 2-3 weeks (not the 40 wash loads indicated in manual) so I assumed I was not filling the dispenser all the way. Actually, this dishwasher does a really good job and with the rinse aid, even the plastics get dry without having to use the heater element.

Yeah, very poor indicator. I think though that a better indicator is on the DMR78 controls. When the rinse aid is down, it is supposed to indicate so. I guess we will wait to see if that function works or not. I assume you are not having good luck in drying dishes. Maybe not cleaning either.

Thanks for the question. If you're having to refill the rinse aid dispenser every couple of weeks, you may want to adjust the amount of rinse aid being released during the rinse operation. You can adjust the amount over four levels (1~4). The greater the number, the larger the amount of rinse aid released. The factory default is 3. When the rinse dispenser is filled up, it should be good for about 40 washes.

My solution was simple: Just add water and repeat. The issue was there was debris in the basin or pump and with a dry dishwasher nothing the pump could do to flush it. Just put some hot water into a pot and pour it into the dishwasher. Start a cycle. Let it drain (confirm you hear it flushing through the hose). Once you hear the sound change (no more water to pump) open the door and repeat with more water. I had to do this about 5-10 times before the issue cleared. Then the drain cycle ended promptly (normally just takes about 60 seconds) before it stops and moves onto the water fill cycle. Then you know you've fixed it.

In my case I actually removed the drain hose and watched it empty into another pot so I could verify it was flowing well and it wasn't a pump issue or clog. There was lots of little stuff it flushed out after the first few times including parts of a rubber o-ring (purple). Could be part of the washer's internals or something that came off of kitchenware (not sure) but for now I'm happy it's working fine...

Good luck on getting it returned, or serviced. There are a couple issues. The idea of sanitize is to get everything inside hot, so in concept any water not dripped off would dry. Cabinet is sealed though. What I do is open the door when the cycle is done, let the moisture escape (my old GE did this itself by cycling fresh air through to get the excess moisture out.

Oh, to prove the point of this issue, you will see water condensing on the cabinet and inside of the door. There is just tooooo much moisture trapped in the unit.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. There are a number of factors which could be contributing to your dishes not drying well. Following are some of the suggestions that can be found in the Troubleshooting section (pages 23-24) of the DMR78AHS User Manual:
1) The water temperature may be too low. For best performance, the temperature of the supplied water should be 120 ˚F (49 ˚C).
2) Too much or too little detergent is being used. Supply the appropriate amount of automatic dishwasher detergent.
3) Too many dishes have been loaded, or they are not loaded correctly. Please review page 16 of the User Manual for the recommended method for loading dishes.
4) The pressure of the supplied water may be insufficient. The proper pressure of the supplied water is 20~120 psi (140~830 kPa).
5) Try adding a water softener if your water supply is hard (i.e., high in mineral content).

If, after considering all of these tips, you continue to experience this problem, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can further assist you.

Question

Drain error displayed with no clogs or kinked hoses?

I had the same error with no clog or kink. The issue ended up being simple. The sensor that detects if water is still in the basin was thrown off by some debris (non-food related). The solution seems counter intuitive. Just fill a large pan with hot water and pour it into the dishwasher. Start it. It will start to drain it out. You should hear it flush through the drain hose (and of course empty the basin). Once you hear it empty open the door (or it will keep trying to pump because the debris may still be somewhere inside). Repeat the step of pouring more water in there and close the door -- It should still be in the drain cycle and flush out water. I had to repeat this about 5-10 times. Finally the drain cycle ended promptly after clearing the basin and started the fill cycle.

Problem solved.

In my case, I had actually detached the drain hose and put it into another big pot so I could verify it was draining properly and flushing well. And also check to see what kind junk may be coming out -- Guess what I saw? Part of a rubber "O-Ring". On the 5th or 6th flush, another part of the same O-Ring. This was likely causing the sensor to think water was still in there even when the basin was bone dry. Sometimes adding water to give the pump something to do helps flush out stuff and get it back in business. Who knows if that O-Ring was a part of the dishwasher or something that came off of some dishes or kitchen ware -- but regardless saved a $100 service call (for now)...

answer 1
I fixed my 5E "drain error" by simply adding water and letting the pump clear it about 5-10 times to flush out some debris. Apparently the water sensor is very sensitive to odd particles (rubber or plastic) that may have entered the pump or basin drain. If this happens after a cycle finishes then the next cycle can't start because it thinks there's still water and then gives a drain error when really it's nothing of the sort -- you just need to ADD WATER so the pump can do it's thing and flush out the debris.

You may want to disconnect your drain hose and put it into a pot so you can watch it flush to ensure good flow, and watch for debris or plastic or rubber parts. You'll know you fixed it if the drain cycle ends promptly (about 60 seconds).

This error code popped up on our 2 yr old dishwasher. Some have said it's blockage in the line- either in the bottom assembly inside the tub, or the pump you have to access from underneath. After removing/inspecting all that, it turned up nothing so I looked at the left side of the unit.
I don't know the names for the parts, so I'll just have to use the part numbers on the attached diagram. I removed the metal cover (A004). Parts F162 and F087 are connected- these appear to control/deliver the water to fill the tub through part F053. You can see F053 on the left, inside the tub. Take F053 off, unhook the wires/supply line from F087 and remove.
F087 has a grey arm with a float inside the white box (similar in function to toilet) that trips a shutoff switch. Look inside F087 with a light and see if there is any debris in there. If so, flush out the inside of F087 under a faucet several times until the debris is gone. Our dishwasher works fine now.
Ours had alot of debris in it- I think the debris in the bottom of the white box was limiting the movement of the floater arm, causing it to shut the water off before the tub really had enough water to run and giving the error code.
The debris wasn't from hard water- I think when the machine is in it's wash/rinse cycles some food is finding it's way through the F053 opening and settling in the bottom of F087.

For best results use a powder or gel detergent. Samsung hi efficincy D/Ws use less water then other leading brands and during wash all the water is in distribution ( spray arms etc.) and no water pools in the bottom of the D/W tank. When using tablets or packets they may not get activated if water is diverted by dishs.... think of it as a an umbrella shileding the tablets from the water.
Make sure Hi profile items are not placed across front of lower rack preventing detergent dispensor from opening during wash....... these items will also block water from spray arm from flushing dispensor . See attatched photos

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Here are a few things you can try yourself. If after trying these fixes the problem persists, you may want to consult a service technician, which you can do through our on-line service center (see link below). 1. Check your hot water source. Most detergents will not dissolve in water that's less than 60°F, so if the hot water is not hooked up properly the water may be too cold to dissolve the detergent effectively. 2. Are you using too much detergent? Make sure you fill the dispenser cup to the line that corresponds to your load size. 3. Is the detergent old? Some detergents may not dissolve as well as they age. Perhaps try a fresh container. If none of these possible solutions corrects the problem, click here for a link to Samsung's online service request form: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

Go through the process of creating an account and here and registering the product. Based on the Model and Serial number, the site will report the manufactured date. If the date is less than one year, it should still be under warranty. I have seen other household items installed by the builder that don't have receipts but warranty starts from buying the house. Try running your next wash cycle on "sanitize" and "heavy" cycles. I just posted about my experience which is very much like yours and I believe that the water isn't hot enough to dissolve the soap or grease so it gets plugged up. I used the sanitize and it cleared it out and now I don't have that problem.

The design of the detergent cup isn't the best. Make sure there isn;t anything tall in front of it or it won't open during the wash cycle!!

good luck!

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your DMR78AHS dishwasher. Please visit the link below for tips on resolving the problem with food particles left on your dishes: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

Regarding the dispenser cup not draining properly, this may be the result of low water pressure or the water not being hot enough to dissolve the detergent. The proper pressure is 20 to 120 PSI, and the recommended temperature is 120 ˚F.

If, after following these suggestions, you continue to experience these issues. your unit may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for the question. The adjustment bracket is part of the top rack assembly, which would need to be replaced as one unit. If your DMR78 dishwasher is still within warranty, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you. If you are no longer within the warranty period for this part, please visit SamsungParts.com for information and availability.

Question

Why is my 2 yr old dishwasher suddenly making a very loud noise?

The dishwasher began making a very loud noise 2 washes ago. It sounds like a loud motor noise. There is no grinding sound and no screeching like metal on metal. When Normal wash is chosen, it begins 2 mins and 25 secs after the first cycle noises begin. When Rinse is chosen, the sound begins 2 mins and 3 secs after the first cycle noises begin. The sound does not occur during the "cancel and drain" operation. I have operated the dishwasher both with and without the racks in the unit and the noise is present in both scenarios. Note: 6/8 of the plastic clips holding the upper rack to the adjustable brackets have broken off. Is it possible that the clips could be stuck in the hard food disposer causing this noise? We run the dishwasher approximately once per week. We tend to rinse the dishes before loading them in the dishwasher. We use powdered soap and a rinse agent. Typically we run the dishwasher on Normal with the Sanitize Extra Dry option chosen.

That's the problem! We experienced the same grinding noise about 4 months ago. The technician came out & pulled out pieces of the plastic clips that had broken off.
