Question
Color prints with Word 2010 and CLX-3160FN?
I have a CLX-3160FN connected on my network and it has been working well. My newest computer has Windows 7 professional 64bit and it seems to work correctly with almost every program I use except Word 2010: it will print only in black&white with low quality. I can access the settings and change them but the new settings do not take effect.
Does anybody know how to print in color with Word 2010 ?
I do... I was having the same issue with a client and thought it was VERY weird how 'hidden' the settings are but with all the newer OS's and software from MS. Everything that does anything is hidden. Just like on a MAC. We don't want you to know how it works or where it is we just want you to follow along like a lemming and we'll tell you what to do. Any how.... go to 'devices and printers' there are many ways to get there depending on your theme and windows settings. Control pannel is where you should find it. Once there you'll see your CLX-3160FN. Right-Click it and select 'printing preferences' you'll get a CLX3160fn dialog box. although it may not show up as the top window. You'll see the CLX-3160fn in the list of printers on the right of this window. Double click it. You now will have the printing preferences dialog box you're used to. See how much easier that was then just right clicking the printer. Aren't you glad MS made these changes to keep you safe? :)

Goto 'Devices and Printers' and right click on your CLX-3160FN printer and select 'Printing Preferences'. Then select the 'Graphic' tab. What you now need to do is save a 'Colour' setting in the Favourites box - located just above the Delete button. So select the desired settings using the radio buttons for Quality and Color mode and then give this "Favourite" a name by typing the name in the favourites box. Remember to then click Save or Rename, depending upon if you created a new favourite or typed over an existing one.
Now when you go to print, when you have the document open and ready to print, select "File" and then "Print". Then select "Printer Properties". Go to the Graphics tab and under "Favourites" select the 'Colour' favourite you have created. Select "OK" and then "Print". Your print job will now be in colour.
1) Unplug the printer and let it cool off for 10-15 minutes. 2) Open the front cover, push the release on the bottom of the imaging unit (the piece that the toners are inserted into) and pull it out of the printer. Cover this unit with a cloth or piece of paper so the green part on the back is not exposed to light. 3) Remove the waste toner box (it's a small L shaped piece that sits beside the Imaging Unit). While you've got it out, check to make sure there's not too much toner built up right inside the hole at the top of the waste toner box...some is fine, too much will make the printer think the box is full when it's not. 4) With a soft dry lint-free cloth, gently wipe out any dust and toner from inside the printer. 5) After you're done, reinsert the imaging unit first, then the waste toner box.
If you have set the printer to scan to PDF, all that you have to do to save multiple pages is scan multiple pages in at once from the automatic document feeder.
The waste toner tank is the gray L-shaped container to the left of the cyan (blue) toner cartridge. Pull on the tab handle and either shake out the waste toner into a deep trash can (VERY messy) or outside into a trash can, then replace the old one if emptied or use a new one. Should be able to get it at a larger office supply store. Hope this helps.

Question
I believe my printer has an ink measurement gauge. How can I see this?
The SmartPanel software is installed with the printer driver, and it monitors toner levels. To access it, look for the blue S in the bottom right corner of the task bar. If you're using a Mac, look in the upper right corner for the same blue S.
If the error persists after you have unplugged the printer then powered it back on, then it will need service. You can either call 1-800-SAMSUNG and an agent will walk you through setting up service or if you have registered the printer on www.samsung.com you can set up an online service request there.
The Imaging Unit is the large component immediately inside the front door that holds the toner cartridges and the whole drum assembly. It's actually quite easy to remove; pull the latch on the bottom of the unit and it will slide out easily. Bear in mind that unless the toner cartridges were already empty, you can remove them and use them with the new imaging unit.
For reference, go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/CLX-3160FN/XAA and download the User Manual. Under the Maintenance section, there are diagrams showing where the imaging unit is and how to replace it.
To order a new unit. check www.samsungparts.com and search by your model number.
Not sure if this is a software issue or mechanical. If mechanical, there is a green slide underneath the glass portion you can access through the top hole the paper comes out of when printed. Slide it to see if it got moved during the replacement of the fuser unit.

Question
scanner says it is locked and will not scan how do i unlock to scan
i looked and saw the tab to unlock but is there a driver or progeram to use to unlock the scanner?
There is a green button that unlocks the scanner. It can be found if you look in the paper output area. It is located on the left side of the opening. You either push or pull it to release the scanner function.

Question
CLX-3160 paper feed
My printer will not pick up paper from the tray or the single-sheet feed. I have tried cleaning the rollers, changing paper, and checking for jams. Nothing works. Is there something else I can do to try and fix it?
The only other thing I can think of is you may be in need of replacing the rollers, check to see if they are very dry and cracked looking, if they are they most likely need to be replaced.
Are there any errors showing in the LCD screen of the printer?

Question
I Need scaner driver for window 7
I have window 7 professional in my laptop and I need updated disc for printer and scanner driver. I can not printer or scanner to work with my laptop.
Windows 7 should find the drivers automatically, if you are connected to the internet. If it can't find it still go directly to the Samsung website and download the software. Here is the link, you may have to click the software tab to get it and it should say which operating system it belongs to and what bit version as well.

Thank you for contacting Samsung. It's possible that you have the wrong size of paper selected. After loading paper in the paper tray, you need to set the paper size and type using the control panel buttons. These settings will apply to Copy and Fax modes. For PC-printing, you need to select the paper size and type in the application program you use on your PC: 1 Press Menu until System Setup appears on the bottom line of the display and press OK. 2 Press the Scroll buttons until Paper Setup appears and press OK. 3 Press OK when Paper Size appears. 4 Press the Scroll buttons until the paper tray you want appears and press OK. 5 Press the Scroll buttons until the paper size you are using appears and press OK. 6 Press Back to return to the upper level. 7 Press the Scroll buttons until Paper Type appears and press OK. 8 Press the Scroll buttons until the paper type you are using appears and press OK. 9 Press Stop/Clear to return to Standby mode.

Try thoroughly cleaning the rollers and the remainder of the interior. Then print a test page, and if it still is having issues, then please contact us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, or if you want to come through a social media channel, we have a couple options for you:
If you have a Twitter account, go here or to this URL: http://twitter.com/#!/samsungsupport Having a transaction number or model number and serial number handy ahead of time will be helpful.
If you have Facebook, go here to this URL: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungSupport Click on the "Support Form" button.
How to use the scanner over the network with a macintosh?
Using Mac OS X 10.6 and latest drivers. - If I instal the printer as USB connected, in "System Preferences -> Print & Fax", CLX-3160 has two tabs "Print" and "Scan" (i.e. the "Print Queue" has two modes "Printer" and "Scanner", showing the documents printed or scanned respectively). Both printer and scanner work via USB. - If I instal the printer as network connected (socket), in "System Preferences -> Print & Fax", CLX-3160 has only the "Print" tab. The printer works fine via ethernet. The scanner is not found and it doesn't work. How can I use the scanner over the network?
