I had this problem when I accidentally pushed the button for WPS (PBC). I lost all network and nothing including a full reset brought it back. Unplugging for 15 minutes (thanks to the person who suggested this) brought it right back.

I have the same problem, many time my BD-D5500 can't connect to network, if I remove the AC power from BD for some second the problem disappear, but I don't think that is a good solution. If I plug the network cable into some other device, this is connected to the network; so the problem is in the BD and not in my network equipment.

I've looked all over samsung support to resolved the issue, I tried many times reseting the router, and still woulnt connect. I am 10000000% sure it wasnt my network or router because I have my iPhone (with samsung TV app) controlling my 60"LED Samsung Smart TV trough the same network, all connected to the same router. So for SURE it is not neither network or harware.

The only thing that worked for me was unplug from outlet for 15min, when i turn it on, it connected right away. So, the issue is the BD-D5500. I hope with the new update(from Dec20,2011), it wont do it again... GUYS UNPLUG and wait 15min.

For me, I didn't have to wait 15 minutes. Unplugged it, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in (power cord) - and bingo, Netflix and other network connections worked.

This is a lousy way to fix a problem, but at least it does work - although I've only had to try it once, maybe Samsung will address this.

I have the exact same issue. I need to unplug it for 10-15 minutes and then it works again. The problem is that I need to re-enter the Netflix, Pandora, YouTube information which takes time. It has happend 4 times in the last week. The device is only 1 month old. I guess I better return it while I can and get a Sony.

Without having further information, it's difficult to determine if the problem might be with the Blu-ray player, the connection, or the router. Unfortunately I don't have any way to assist on this.

If you'd like to attend troubleshooting, we offer live chat on the Samsung.com support page. If it's not the player, and instead it's an issue with the router or the Internet connection, you may need to contact the customer support for those products. Here's the link to Samsung's assistance:

As with any wired vs. wireless question, it depends on the variables of your network.

Variables include speed, interference, and distance. Without knowing these, it's difficult to say.

If the player is within range, and network traffic isn't a problem on your home network, playback on either wireless or wired will be very similar.

We originally tried a wireless solution for Netflix and single use it was fine. Minor surfing from a PC or tablet while someone was watching Netflix caused no issues. The problems arose when one of us was watching Netflix upstairs and the other was watching downstairs. Now freezing of the feed was an issue. Also sometimes it simply refused to connect at all to Netflix if the other was already streaming a movie. HD seemed to be an even bigger issue. After wiring both BB Players using CAT 6 cable (150' on each) we have never had a single issue.

Question

How can I dowload the Netflix application for the Blu-Ray BD-D5500?

I can access the internet using the Smart Hub attached to the Blu-Ray. When I try to use the 'Netflix' red button provided at the remote control, it does indicate the application needs to be downloaded. I followed the instructions to download the application from Samsung apps but there isn't one for Netflix.

It may be due to the availability of Netflix in regions outside of the 50 states in the U.S. region. This question is being asked in Puerto Rico, and I'm not aware of Netflix being available in that region.

You'd need to contact Netflix and the Samsung customer service center in your region for further assistance.

You have to change the region of the Smart Hub because the device does not detect that we are part of the USA. To do this, go to the Smart Hub screen and press >> 2 8 9 << (">>" this refers to the forward button) and then choose United States of America (Puerto Rico is not on the list because we are USA). After accepting the agreements, Netflix will install automatically with other "Recommended" Apps.

According to Samsung Support, the app was mistakenly removed from the app store during maintenance. So, for right now it's not available for US users. There's a workaround, but you may lose other services temporarily (and WILL lose Hulu Plus temporarily). Use the >>289<< code as described and switch the region to Canada. Smart Hub will uninstall some apps, and install others including Netflix. Hopefully it's fixed soon, and when you switch back to the US all should be well, and Smart Hub will reinstall Hulu Plus and Netflix, etc.

You don't need any discs for Pandora. On your TV, go to Smart Hub, then go into Samsung Apps. Select the Lifestyle tab on the left and look for the Pandora app in the window on the right. Once you highlight and select the app, you should have the option to download or run. After downloading and running the app, it should ask you to login to your Pandora acct. and it will put a shortcut to the app on the bottom of the main Smart Hub window instead of having to navigate to the Samsung Apps window.

I haven't set it up on the Bluray player yet but it should be the exact same procedure as long as the player supports it, which i'm 99% sure it does.

samsung blu-ray constantly deleting apps and forgetting settings

EVERY time we log into "Smart Hub", the player deletes all the apps that we downloaded. About every other time it forgets all account settings.

We use this feature 2-5 times a week, so this is very frustrating!

You'll need a 3D television. If you have a Samsung Television connected with HDMI, it should make the change automatically.

If not, you may have to enable the 3D feature on your TV and then send the signal as a 3D signal on the Blu-Ray player.

Goto the product page for the specific model of your 3d enabled blu-ray player. There should be a link near the top right of the page for Support. On the support page look for the Downloads section and the get downloads link. On the next page look for a Firmware tab and you will see a zip file which is the firmware file and a pdf file which are the installation instructions.

I can't see the other answers but......either buy the samsung wireless USB and update wirelessly of download the update to a USB drive. If that doesn't work you probably got a junk disk.

Surround sound would be the best if you have it, and you can set Audiophile settings. Otherwise, stereo (PCM) would be the other option.

Cable and Satellite box companies, as well as universal remote control manufacturers often program their remotes with their own code banks. In order to get codes that are compatible with Samsung (or any!) manufacturer's devices, you'll need to contact your service provider to see which codes are available for your model.

you have to belong to Netflix first (a paying member), because the blu ray will give you a code number, then you go into your Netflix account and type the code number in. then the blu ray starts to activate the Netflix program. No Netflix account, no blu ray Netflix. The same goes for Hulu plus.

Question

audio from internet media

My Blu-Ray DVD audio output is connected to an older analog amplifier. How do i amplify the audio from streaming internet media (netflix) or do i have to hear it from my tv speakers? My tv has only digital audio output (no audio R/L). The dvd player is not connected to internet, but my tv is connected via Wi-Fi. I can only amplify the tv and dvd audio, but not internet media. If i connect my Blu-Ray to internet, will i be able to enjoy the streaming audio through my amp or just from the tv speakers? thanks

If you don't have access to an optical or hdmi port, your older amp is not going to support Dolby 5.1 digital tracks.

The Netflix App on Smart Hub is not the best written software either.

Thank you for your question. It is possible to do a manual install through a USB flash drive. You can find the most recent firmware and the instructions for installation here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/BD-D5500#firmware

Question

WON'T PLAY COPIES

I make backup dvd's to protect my originals and they won't play on this player. They play on my Samsung 3D player hooked to my tv and on my wife's Panasonic dvd player in the house. These are brand name dvd disc with the dvd logos. Are you working on fixing this? We go to trade shows and my wife likes to watch movies. I make copies to keep my originals from getting scratch up which is legal.

No. The HDMI or other connection cables do not pass data other than video or audio. They won't transmit, say Netflix or online apps.

You'd either need a wired connection, or purchase the Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick to connect your device to your wireless network.

Yes, you should be able to connect to the internet via the D7000 TV (either of plasma or LED). It has wireless built in or you can connect an ethernet cable.

For the wireless capability, it will be necessary to install the Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick adapter. This device can be found at many online retailers, national retailers and at the www.Samsungparts.com website

Until that device is connected to one of the Blu-ray players USB ports, the option of wireless connection will not be available.

Be sure to register your products. If they are devices with internet connectivity, you can go into the menu on the device and tell it to update "by online" and it will make sure it is running the latest software/firmware.

answer 2
Do not use the online update.

If your connection install fails during a firmware upgrade you could turn your HDTV in an expensive paper weight.

Best choice. Check for firmware updates periodically via samsung.com/support/downloads and copy the software to a flash drive.

Read the descriptions or "reasons" for the upgrade. If your set isn't broken, why try to fix it.
