Question

Anyone else having wifi connection problems?

My player started having problems today with the WiFi connection. It doesn't stay connected and after going into Settings to reconnect, the connection is lost again after restarting the player.

Just upgraded to latest firmware (1015.4), doesn't fix the problem.

If you do not have a VERY good router and a strong internet connection you will never keep a connection. I had this same problem then i went and purchased a new router that balances out the transfer rates for all my different electronics that need wifi, and it also gives a much higher transfer rate overall. Since i have done this I have had no problems.

I have BD-C6900 DVD player with the latest firmware, that has had historical WIFI connectivity issues (connects but no internet access). After the latest Samsung upgrade hiccup I discovered the only way to connect successfully was first manually enter my IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS Server under Network>network settings, Then Select a Network but rather than select yours listed, select Add Network and add your network again. I must also broadcast my SSID. For me it works every time. Too bad Samsung can't get it right.

1. Update all firmware to the latest version.
2. Make sure router and player are no more than 15 feet apart.
3. Make sure player is not enclosed or confined to an enclosed space. The back of the unit must be out and in the open for the router signal to get to it freely.
4. For testing purposes, turn off or unplug/disconnect all portable phones. The frequency can and does interfere at times with router signals.
5. Try to connect wirelessly and see if the connection will maintain.
6. Another option - Buy a router bridge, connect it wirelessly to your router, then place the bridge close to the player and see if that helps. Some bridges have wired connections and that can be used too.

I was having this problem with Pandora, and was also unable to log in to my YouTube account. (I had both working previously, but they stopped working when I upgraded the TV's firmware.) I had already created an account for both services in the TV's settings menu (which still showed up after the firmware upgrade). I tried deleting and reinstalling the widgets, and removing and recreating my logins in the settings menu -- still no joy. The missing step was to press the A button on the TV's remote while hovering over one of the widgets (e.g., Pandora) in the Internet menu. I was prompted to log into my App Manager profile. That fixed the problem for both Pandora and Youtube.

Regarding the cable issue, it could have something to do with the cable version. Older manufactured cables are version 1, 1.2, 1.3 compliant, while newer cables are version 1.4 compliant. Most of the changes include increased frequency support, which may allow the cable to transmit the increased data to the TV. My HDMI cable is version 1.3 compliant, and I know of at least 1 game system that requires version 1.4, and the screen flashes with my cable. I've seen cables being advertised as version 2.0, but I can't find the specs for it. As of version 1.4 (released in 2009), they're not supposed to tell you the version for the cable, and beginning Jan 2012, no one will offer up the version at all, but instead will give you a list of the features the HDMI product supports. Always remember that with longer cables comes the requirement to have increased cable quality and shielding, which translates to higher cost. For most home users, 10 ft or less with little shielding is just fine. Audiophiles and videophiles may complain, though.

There are two different possibilities of why this is so:

1) The device is on the current version and, thus, doesn't need an upgrade.

2) The file is not put in the root of the USB drive.

If you're sure that neither of these is a problem, then please contact us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, or if you want to come through a social media channel, we have a couple options for you:

It only does 2.4GHz b/g/n. Serious problem if you have a cordless phone and are surrounded by neighbors with wifi. Video is not as smooth or you can spend allot of time while video rebuffers. For streaming video I recommend getting wireless n with dual channels (2.4 and 5.0 GHz) and running on the 5.0GHz channel for the smoothest operation.

When I purchased my 3d DVD player months ago I experienced the same thing. There have been many software upgrades since then which helped, but I found streaming video still leaves a lot to be desired. I really believe the source of the problem is Netflix and not our systems. If you run a secure wireless network as compared to an open one, the secure network will run a bit slower. Make sure your network security isn't set for AES, as this is a slower setting. The other thing you could do is try a movie from VUDU and see if the streaming speed is better. Also check your internet provider speed and also the speed reported on the DVD player.

Mine works fine with the internal memory. You can pause the movie and let it "buffer". Make sure that no one else is using the internet connection as this can cause HD playback issues. It sounds like a connection speed issue.

Blu Ray player has a feature that called BD-LIVE (BD Live is a feature found on most Blu-ray discs, it downloads interactive content such as trailers, movie shorts, background stories, games, and more. Often times when a player is connected to a network, BD live will begin downloading these interactive features found on the Blu-ray disc). Try to turn it off it will help to stop the blu ray disc to connect to the internet automatically.

Here is how to do it
To rule out BD Live as the cause go to Settings> Network> BD Live> and set to 'Prohibit'. This will prevent the disc from accessing the Network. On older players you may have to press Menu>Setup>Network Setup> BD Live.

Hope it helps...

Question

Anything I can do about occasional "Skipping" while playing a 2D movie?

I've downloaded the latest firmware for the 6900 (Jan 21,2011), and still find that older movies (i.e. "Where Eagles Dare", "The Big Red One", and others) skip (jittery display), any where from about every 5 minutes, to almost 1/2 hour depending on the movie. Seems to only happen on 2D movies. DVDs themselves are new - either never been played or only once or twice on other units. The movies do NOT skip while playing on other DVD players I have in the house. Should I return the unit? Wait for new firmware? Other?

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with your BD-C6900.

If brand-new movie titles aren't playing properly, it may be an issue with the player itself. If you're outside of the return policy from your retailer, what I might suggest is having your unit serviced under warranty through 800-SAMSUNG.

You may want to contact your retailer and see if there's an option to exchange the player for a new one to see if the problems surface with a different player.

While firmware updates often address playback issues with specific titles, it sounds like there are several titles that you aren't able to play, This may be indicating a problem with the unit that may require service.

If your Access Point is not detected or the signal is poor, check the following:

Is the router out of range or blocked by obstructions?
Could other wireless devices be weakening the signal?
Is SSID Broadcasting disabled?
Are you using a Dual-Band Router?
Is the router's firmware up to date?

Poor or No Signal
Low or poor signal is usually caused by one or more of the following.

Distance
Obstructions
Interferences
Transmit Rate on the Access Point
Distance
There is no way to know the exact range of your wireless network and performance varies depending on wireless network hardware, physical barriers or signal interference from other radio devices. Wireless devices have limitations when it comes to their range. For devices running on 2.4 GHz, the range can go up to 100-150 feet. If your wireless network is too far from its range, consider relocating the device. Distance is directly proportional to signal strength. The further you are from an access point, the lower the signal.

Physical Obstructions
Wireless networks are susceptible to obstructions that may lead to low signal. Signals can be affected by obstructions such as cabinets, mirrors, metal or glass objects and thick walls or ceilings. Every obstacle placed between an Access Point and a wireless device will create signal loss. If you have any of these objects between your wireless adapter and access point, consider relocating your access point to somewhere high to get around the obstruction and make sure the antenna(s) are pointing towards the BD Player.

Wireless Interference
Neighboring wireless networks or any appliance that operates on the same frequency as your wireless device (ex. 2.4 GHz) may cause interference and may affect your wireless connection and signal.

Common sources of interference are:

Neighboring wireless networks
Microwave ovens
2.4 GHz cordless telephones
Bluetooth devices
Wireless baby monitors
Video Game Systems
Try changing the channel as this may eliminate interference affecting only one channel. Preferred channels to use are 1, 6 and 11 since they're considered non-overlapping channels.

Transmit Rate
Check the Transmit Rate on the wireless router. The Transmit Rate allows the device to work at a specific speed for wireless transmissions. The Transmit Rate should be set to AUTO. To check the Transmit Rate, access the router's web based setup page. Click on Wireless > Advanced > Wireless Settings.

SSID Broadcasting
Most wireless access points (APs) and routers automatically transmit their network name (SSID) into open air every few seconds. This feature of the Wi-Fi protocols simplifies home networking but can also be an open invitation to hackers. Disabling the SSID broadcast is just one of many ways to tighten security, however when disabled, the device will not appear as an available access point on your Blu-ray Player. To connect to the network, you can either manually specify the network information (recommended) or enable SSID Broadcasting (Advanced). Click here for instructions to enable SSID Broadcasting.

Dual-Band Routers
Samsung Blu-ray players with built-in WiFi support 2.4GHz but do not support 5 GHz. The type of performance obtained does not depend on higher or lower frequencies but on the type of environment. For example 802.11a runs only on the 5GHz band and supports a maximum data rate of 54 mbps which is the same as 802.11g running on the 2.4GHz band. Also, keep in mind that higher frequencies have a shorter range and do not penetrate solid objects as well as the 2.4GHz band does.

The major differences between the two are the type of frequencies (channels) they offer and the WiFi protocols they support. The 2.4GHz ISM band offers 3 non overlapping channels while the 5GHz offers at least 20. 2.4GHz is widely used throughout the US by consumer products such as PC notebooks, PDA, Bluetooth devices, cordless phones and microwaves. 802.11b and 802.11g both operate on the 2.4GHz band while 802.11a uses 5Ghz. 802.11n on the other hand can use both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

Firmware Updates
If a router is performing sluggishly, not being detected or experiencing dropped connections, a firmware upgrade is often a quick fix. Check the manufacturer's web site for firmware updates or bulletins.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We're sorry to hear you're encountering this issue. We recommend you review the following support article.

http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=351435&modelname=BD-C6900&modelcode=&session_id=QLjYlSh1TvMSn0hLDLyJY1SqT24k44HylqHqdLXS7dTsR3FcYMnQ%211563613049%21-2054320912%211342710680810

Additionally, you might try making sure your Blu-ray player has the latest firmware. The most recent firmware update was released on 3/26/2012 and can be installed via USB flash drive. You can download the update as well as instructions by visiting the link below and clicking on MANUALS & DOWNLOADS > FIRMWARE.

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/BD-C6900

We also recommend you consider resetting your Blu-ray player to factory defaults and reconnecting to your wireless.

One final option would be to reset your router and reconfigure your wireless connection, but if you did not set this up yourself and since modems and routers vary, we recommend you contact your Internet service provider if you need any technical support with that process.

Here's a brief support article that instructs you how to disable AnyNet+. We suggest you check to see if this feature is enabled and if so, try disabling it to see if it resolves the issue.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

Based on your description, it sounds like you may have configured your Blu-ray player and TV to work together using AnyNet+ (HDMI-CEC), which means your Blu-ray player may switch to the appropriate source (input) when powered on or when a disc is inserted. You can read more about this feature on page 38 of your Blu-ray manual. You can also refer to your TV manual for additional information on this feature, though since you did not provide your TV model, we cannot point you to the specific page where this information can be located.

Other than AnyNet+, we know of no reason why your Blu-ray player would automatically switch to another source (input) unless you're using a universal remote control and someone has programmed in some macro codes to automatically change these settings.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

Your player has the ability to stream music, photo & video from your PC via the AllShare/PC Share feature.

http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=349243&modelname=BD-C6900

If you wished to stream certain online content to your player, that would require an app for that specific offering.
