Question

Nasty Vertical Lines on Screen

I have used this monitor for 4.5 years. Recently, I noticed a pattern of vertical lines on all my photographic images, and realized that the lines were actually on this monitor (I use dual monitors, and the other one, a 10-year-old CRT, did not show any lines on my images).

I have checked the video card, the video driver, the video cable and connections, etc., and the problem is not due to any of these things. It appears that the SyncMaster 216BW's display has simply gone bad. I have attached a screenshot showing the lines clearly visible on a light brown background.

Has anyone else had this problem? Isn't 4.5 years a bit of a short lifespan for an LCD monitor?

Cables have been disconnected & reconnected (no change). Different cable has been tried (no change). Different monitor has been connected (lines gone). Conclusion is that the monitor's display is defective, but the cost of service would equal or exceed the cost of a new monitor. Considering an IPS panel for better color accuracy. Looking at brands other than Samsung, with better track records for longevity.

After about 3 months of the vertical pattern lines (which made photo/graphic editing impossible), this monitor's power supply is dead. Came in one morning, just off and dead. Replaced with a 1920x1080 IPS panel with very accurate colors and a much wider viewing angle. Could not find a Samsung monitor with DVI output in my needed size and price point.

You can go into your On Screen Display Menu and adjust the Contrast in the Picture Menu. You can also change the Color Tone and Color Control in the Color Menu. If none of those features work you can perform a Color Reset in the Setup Menu. This issue may also be caused by your computer. You can try changing the colors in your graphics card menu.

If the lines are moving or scrolling or jittering they are most likely caused by a defective or loose signal cable. Make sure that your signal cable (VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc.) i plugged firmly in to your monitor and the source. If the issue still occurs, try using a different signal cable.
If the lines are static it may be a row of dead pixels, if this is a case your monitor will require service.

You should not have any problems using the 216BW as a second monitor for a laptop. Windows 7 usually finds drivers easily, and this monitor is a common PNP(Plug N Play) monitor.

Question

Failure of monitor Syncmaster 216BW

I use two identical Samsung monitors of the 216BW model. A short time ago one of the monitors began to intermittently go dark, then recover. It now is completely dark. The only indication that it has power is the blue light at the button. How do I troublecheck for problems in hardware and software?

Hardware: Try switching physical DVI/VGA cables, as well as ports. It may be a cable problem, or it may be a problem with your video card. If none of the combinations of hardware work, it is either the physical monitor, or a software issue of which I cannot help.

Try a different power outlet that you know is working. You may have a blown power supply in the monitor- happened in mine (after 4.5 years of use). If so, best bet is monitor replacement. (I think warranty on these is 3 years.)

Question

My monitor flickers during boot

When I boot my computer the monitor begins flickering and after it warms up it the screen goes blank. Until recently, if I rapidly power the monitor off and back on several times it would eventually stay on. Now, it will not stay on no matter how many times I power it off/on.

Is it shot or can it be repaired?

Question

How long does the monitor work?

When I turns on computer, the monitor starts with blinking, and turns off by itself. But, after I turn on and off 4 or 5 times repeatedly, the display works. Once it is dark, it is getting brighter. Some says the life exptectancy is three to five years. I wonder it happens due to life expentancy. And, I want to ask you if I still have warranty on it. Model Code:LS22MEVSFV/XAA, S/N: ME22HVCP528459Y
Would you tell me what's problem and how to fix it?
Thank you.

Question

When I go into Power saving mode on the Monitor, and the next day hit the space bar the blinking on button goes out

I have followed all examples including removing power cord and repluging after a minute. Pressing Source button, on button, and auto button it remains black on no blinking on button. After 10- 15 minutes the on button begins blinking the screen flutters, goes black again. Pressing source steadies screen and it works the rest of the day, even when it has been in safe mode for hours. How can I fix the problem? Do I need to remove software and reinstall it or download it?
